A secondhand trading store design
what is karrot?
Karrot is the largest local community marketplace in South Korea for buying, selling, and trading new and used home decor, furniture, fashion, and more from around the house. Nearly a quarter of South Korea's population uses the app regularly, and now it has launched globally.
DESIGN CONCEPT
In a world marked by rising inflation and increasing financial strain, the demand for secondhand goods has surged as individuals seek more affordable alternatives. However, beyond economic necessity, there’s a growing desire among people to foster meaningful connections in today’s digitally-driven yet disconnected society. Recognizing these dual needs, the Karrot Market project emerged as a solution to not only provide a platform for buying and selling secondhand items but also to create a space where community connections could thrive.
Moreover, Karrot Market is committed to sustainability, offering a platform where pre-loved items find new homes, reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact. In the Karrot Market mobile application, users can easily find and explore specific items they need while also sharing their timeless and spatial experiences with neighbors. It’s a place where used items, embedded with special memories, can be shared among the community, fostering a sense of connection and belonging. With its core values of Discover, Share, and Connect, Karrot Market aims to reimagine the secondhand trading experience as a means of not just transactions but also as a catalyst for building stronger, more connected communities, all while promoting sustainability.
Fraud + Environmental issues
Here are the issues associated with buying and selling used items: Users of Karrot often encounter difficulties in selecting safe meeting places for trades. Additionally, individuals frequently encounter scams when making transactions on platforms such as eBay. To enhance the user experience, I intend to address these challenges through the establishment of a physical store, while also reducing excessive packaging and lowering shipping costs.
Mission statement
Creating a place where people can meet and connect, especially in today’s disconnected world. The goal is to support sustainability and offer a safe space for in-person trading, addressing the issues faced in online secondhand markets and providing fresh experiences.

design strategy
For the design, I incorporated the concept of a handshake to symbolize connection. The space is designed to be open and clear, reflecting people's desire for a safe trading environment. This includes using transparent materials, large windows for ample natural light, and open layouts that feel inviting and welcoming.
Color & materials
By combining vibrant blue to evoke dynamism with the friendly and warm tone of orange, we aim to offer people a fresh and engaging experience. Utilizing natural and eco-friendly materials alongside contemporary and youthful elements, we provide a strong contrast to stimulate diverse experiences.
